Do you feel like you're missing out on friends' status updates? Use the following tips and tricks to get more of the posts you'd like to see in your News Feed!

How to See More Friends' Posts on Facebook

Are you frustrated because you only see status updates, photos, and links from a small number of friends on Facebook? Don't worry—they haven't unfriended you. You can't see friends' statuses because of an algorithm Facebook uses to cut down the "noise" on your profile. This algorithm looks at which friends you've had the most interactions with and prioritizes posts from those people when constructing your News Feed.

If you're a veteran Facebook user, you might be missing the good old days of seeing a wide variety of friends' status updates. After all, Facebook is supposed to be a social network. And who is Facebook to decide what you like to see when you're the one who specifically chose to add those friends in the first place?

Unfortunately, there is not currently a method available for bypassing Facebook's News Feed algorithm, but there are a few tips and tricks you can use to see more of the content you want to see.

The Easy Way to Get Your Friends' Updates on Facebook News Feed: Adjust Your "Favorites" on Facebook

You can select up to 30 friends and pages to be your "Favorites" on Facebook; this means their posts will appear higher in your News Feed. Here's how:

  1. Click the drop-down icon on the upper right-hand side of the screen, then click "Settings & Privacy."
  2. Click "News Feed Preferences." From there, select "Manage Favorites." You can search and add friends to include on your "Favorites" list.
  3. You can also add friends to your "favorites" from their profile page by clicking on "Friends," then "Favorites."

Once you've completed this process, you will see your "Favorite" friends' Facebook status updates whenever you check your News Feed, and you'll see the newest statuses first. This is a good way to circumvent Facebook's algorithm issues if you notice you're not seeing certain friends' status updates. However, as previously mentioned, you can only include up to 30 friends or pages at this time.

More Tips and Tricks for Adjusting Your News Feed Settings

  • You can "Snooze" (prevent from appearing in your News Feed for 30 days) posts from specific pages or groups if you keep coming across them in your News Feed and would prefer to see updates from friends and family instead. This will unclutter your News Feed so that you are primarily seeing friends' status updates.
  • You can also remove posts from specific pages or groups by selecting "Hide post" rather than "Snooze," which will help Facebook understand your viewing preferences and update your News Feed accordingly.
  • If you'd like to eliminate page or group posts from your News Feed permanently, you can select "Hide all" or "Unfollow."
  • To sort your News Feed by most recent posts, click "Most Recent" on the left-hand menu bar (found if you click the "Menu" icon on the bottom right-hand corner of the iPhone app). However, the News Feed will eventually revert to the original settings; you'll have to manually sort by "Most Recent" whenever you want to

What Are the Factors Influencing Facebook's News Feed Algorithm?

What determines the order of posts you see on your Facebook News Feed? Facebook takes several factors into consideration:

  • How often you interact with friends and pages
  • How often you interact with different types of posts (ex: photos or videos)
  • The popularity of a post (how many likes and comments it receives from other viewers)
  • How recently the post was uploaded

The frequency of your interactions with friends and posts will help determine the structure of your News Feed.

When this happens ,it's usually because the the owner only shared it witha small group of people or changed who can see it ,or it's been deleted .

I just don't understand all the latest technologies, it used to tell me how many friends i had, hov many groups i was in now i see nothing unless i come across it by accident, ive missed out in such alot off friends parties and charity events im now Starting to wonder if its any use to me!!!

Re "On your Facebook home page, click Close Friends under the Friends heading in the left-hand column. If you don't see it, click the Friends heading, and look for Close Friends in the list that comes up in place of your news feed." What does this mean? There is no "Friends heading" on my Facebook home page, and no "left-hand column". All I use Facebook for is to see new posts from friends, and if I can't do that, Facebook will be no use to me any more.

This is crazy, nobody asked facebook to manage their friends, everyone is capable of unfriending who they no longer want to hear from!!

This is great information. I have now added my real life friends to a clse friends list. The method to change notification settings so you don't get notified every time a close friend uses Facebook has changed, so now you go to Notifications, top one "All noises and notifications" and you can turn off or on Notifications for Close Friend updates. When I turned it off on my phone it made no difference, so done it on a computer successfully. Thank you.

Awesome hub! Thanks for the info, I will be spreading this around to my friends on facebook for sure! I was wondering why my feed was getting so lame and boring! Probably because I never like or comment on people's stuff so they don't think I'm even friends with anyone!

Connie Fitzgerald on July 19, 2016:

After making sure that there are no restriction whatsoever, I still can only see SOME of one of my friend's posts. How recent they are is not part of the issue. For example, of the things they posted today and yesterday I can see most but not all of what they added to their page. Also, I am not interested in them showing up in my news feed. I just want to be able to go to their page and see ALL of their posts.

Im not that much of a online reader to be honest but your blogs really nice, keep it up! I'll go ahead and bookmark your site to come back later. Cheers fegakcebkfdd

I do agree with all the ideas you have introduced for your post. They are really convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are very brief for newbies. May you please extend them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post. kebgedageefe

Barry, I imagine you just got confused. It's no wonder since you have 5 or 6 Facebook accounts that are all very shady. I was able to go on Rachel Marie Stutes' pages just fine--both of them.

I'm guessing you're also the other guy who posted here. Since I wrote this hub 2 1/2 years ago, I don't get comments on it anymore. I looked up your IP address as well as his, and you guys live in the same place.

I don't know what your deal is, but Facebook will permanently ban all of your accounts. It's against their Terms of Service for one person to have more than one account. That's not to mention the fact that your accounts all look very sinister. I don't think HubPages will be too thrilled with you either.

Alright now I'm really upset... did everything as indicated and now anybody I click on it says .. You can't help anyone your not friends with even thought I am....

I mainly use Facebook to keep up with my (grown) kids/grandkids 'doings', and had heard that posts from friends had become limited. Good to know there is a way to change that and receive more posts you want to see. Thanks.

BobLA on July 08, 2014:

I found that iPhone app called Whatt that is made specifically to share status updates with friends. They do not filter out any posts. Just need to your friends to be there though... https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/whatt/id739776660?...

Bluebird2000 on February 07, 2014:

Your comment from above - However, it will not change the settings you previously set manually. For example, if you changed the settings so you would not receive news about Games someone is playing, putting that person on the Close Friends list will not override your setting. - Is there any setting to restore those manual selections - the option of 'settings' when you hover over 'friends' is not longer available? Thanks in advance for your help
